Carol Hill Westbrook, an Atlanta native and owner of CDS, Ltd. dba The Magnolia Room, worked as an assistant to the Fashion Office and the Fabric-Fashion Office at Rich's Department Store in the early 1970's. She did a little bit of everything from helping with fashion shows (sewing many of the sample garments shown on the runways) presented in The Magnolia Room. Attending The Art Institute Carol worked at Rich's to help with expenses and for the experience.
Carol's first job as a fashion designer was for Orbit Manufacturing, (a GA clothing manufacturer) from 1975-1983, when she left to manufacture her own line of women's clothing. In 1991 she changed from the mass marketed fashion to custom-made women's classics and incorporated the current company, Creative Design Studio, Ltd (CDS, Ltd.). Her custom line of clothing, Westbrook Classics, was a "direct-market" line. The customer worked with a local consultant to choose her style, then the fabrics from a varied selection provided to each consultant. She would then place the order and in 6-8 weeks a custom-made garment was delivered. The line also out-sourced items, such as sweaters and accessories to complement and complete each look and color story.
The Westbrook Classics line was marketed exclusively through sales consultants nationwide from 1991 to 2008, and was also shown at Marietta Junior League Mistletoe Market 1996-2008.
Always an antique collector, Carol also maintained several "booths" at various antique malls. It was then only natural to continue her hobby of collecting, buying and selling in here retirement years. Added to the antiques and gifts Carol buys, she has invited 11 additional collectors, designers and artisans to stock their own "departments" within the store.
"I want our customers to have the benefit of many points of view, not just mine. That way, the store is stocked with a diversity that is truly unique. The right mix of up-scale quality and trend specific items for every taste and style".
